Dr. McNeely’s Smoothie

2 oz frozen blueberries

1 oz frozen raspberries

1/2 frozen banana

handful of baby spinach

1 tsp lime juice

1 tablespoon chia

1/4 teaspoon cinnamon

I like to wait until my bananas get really ripe – almost too soft to eat but so very flavorful.  I peel the banana then break it in half and put each half in a sandwich size ziplock bag.  I smash the banana flat and zip it up.  Now I have a stack of delicious, frozen bananas ready to go in my freezer.

I  also have a variety of frozen fruit in the freezer ready to go.  Frozen fruit is more nutritious than canned and probably even more nutritious than the fresh fruit at the grocery as it has been picked at the peak of ripeness and then frozen. Certainly better than fruit that may have been flown in from around the world especially in the middle of winter .

One day I will have a blueberry smoothie and the next I may choose cherry or mango just by changing the frozen fruit that I add.

Adding in baby spinach really doesn’t change the flavor but just adds cute tiny green flecks of bonus nutrition.

Adding in chia also doesn’t change the taste but gives a fuller texture – almost a tapioca feel.
